Hey fella's, looking at replacing some axles in the 44 and 14bFF. I need some brand suggestions so I can start researching them for what I exactly want.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what you are asking - are you asking what model vehicles the Dana 44 and GM Corporate 14-bolt axles came in?

Or, are you asking for brands of axles themselves - the 14FF is a GM corporate product and the 44 is, as you guessed by now, a Dana product.

This might help:

Brands of axles, my man, brands.

I'm kinda looking for a consensus of the heavy duty stuff that has worked well. I used Mark Williams in my Chevelle, but I'm kinda new to the off road world. The intentions of the truck is to do some mild wheeling, with as little chance of destroying parts that I have already installed. I'm really not ready to go "Hog wild" with this truck yet.

On the other hand, most of the people I wheel with are dumb enough to try really crazy stuff with almost stock trucks. I want to be the.....bear with me ...."Strongest" truck in the group I go with. By far I'm there, at least with the guys I wheel with.

I'd like to be the local recovery truck. The guy you call at 2 in the morning when your Heep is stuck.

You mean the shafts themselves, right?

If so, there's Moser, Superior, Longfield, just to name a few.

If you're after the whole assembly, there's Dynatrac, Solid Axle, Currie, just to name a few also.

What brand seems to be the "most commonly" used set on here? I supposed I should have made it a poll.

I'm guess I'm really trying to find out what has worked well for most owners that wheel alot harder that I will for a while.

im kind of confused by what you are asking.
most people on here, by far, will pull another axle from a different vehicle (a one ton truck for example)
then they might replace the shafts, but most dont until the have broken a couple stock shafts.

you will find the one ton axles to be pretty damn strong without ChroMo axles. you would need about 40" tires and ALOT of motor to snap those things.

brands could mean:
seals
shafts
hubs
steering
brakes
brackets
fluids
etc.

but if you are talking about the brand of the axles most people are swapping in, its normally GM, Ford, Dodge, or military.

hope this helped

So you have a D44 in the front and a FF14 bolt in the rear and you're looking to replace the axle shafts with aftermarker, stronger replacements right?

Don't even bother replacing the 14 bolt shafts, they are ridiculously strong already. You won't break 14 bolt shafts.

As for the front, Alloy USA shafts and Longfield joints will be your best bang for the buck. Superior shafts have a little better reputation than Alloy USA but they cost about twice as much. Don't buy Yukon shafts for a D44, they have a horrible reputation.

Are Longfields better than CTM or is it that they're more affordable? I haven't met anybody using them, but I know a few guys running the CTMs.

Longfield claims (and has test data to prove) that their joints are a little stronger than CTM at roughly half the cost. Longfield has an awesome reputation in the Toyota and D60 world and I've heard great things about their joints.

I wish they were in the budget for me right now but I guess I'll keep hoping my Spicers survive :o

Thanks Brother!! That's the kind of info I'm looking for. Seal and all the other stuff listed above I consider consumable. To me that's just maintenance. Axles on the other hand, I don't want to swap out every year.

I'll look into those brands you listed and see what I can find. If I were smarter, I'd have done this when I put on the Dedenbear Knuckles.:D

You know it seems like everybody who puts all those high dollar axles and ujoints in 1/2 ton axles (your d44) ends up going to a Dana 60.

My advice: save your money and get a dana 60 right from the start.

i agree w/one ton...d60's & 14 bolts are strong already...there are axle upgrades, metallurgy wise, and that seems to be what you're asking...just need to be a little clearer on your questions...the brands listed earlier are the way to go...just seems like a waste to spend money upgrading 1/2 ton stuff thats gonna break sooner or later w/o a lot of over the top stress...as far as u b n the "recovery vehicle" for your friends, are you really willing to take a chance to tear your vehicle up in the event your friends get carried away with knowing they can do whatever off-road and you'll b there 2 bail 'em out??? may b OK if your wheelin with 'em, but what about 2-3am on a weeknight??? may want to re-think that one a bit
