I Just purchased a 91 1/2T Burb, been goin around it correcting whats wrong and fixin this n that. Spent plenty of time under the hood, but, this is the very first time around the Diff other than changing fluid. This is elementary stuff for most of you I am sure. The outer seals on this 10 bolt were leaking and the driver side was very bad. Did some research, referenced, a book and a few video's.. Pow, I got this I said to myself. True to my luck, I jack up the rear, removed the tire, pulled the cover, looked and saw things I haven't seen through out my researching.

As seen in the pic below. Would I be correct that this is a limited slip diff / component ? I remove this with a simple pair of vise grips or channel locks?

That being said I had another ":doah:" moment when I realized I would need to rotate the ass to access the required bolts. As My truck is parked in the driveway, to tall to get into the garage, I only lifted one side

Thanks for your help.. Be easy :o

I guess Im confused by your question?

Are you needing to get the c-clips out so you can pull the axle?

If so you need to rotate the carrier around. That looks like an eaton posi, if it is there should be a window on the other side that you can get to the c-clips without haveing to remove those springs.

And for the record, I wouldnt try removing those springs with pliers.

Yesir, that's exactly what I am trying to accomplish. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

I,m glad I asked.. I wasn't going to attempt anything with those springs with out clarification first, so thank you.

Eaton Posi , Ill look more into that as well so I'm better educated on it. I guess this is a good thing. Do you know if requires any additives or special lube?

Thanks Big Dan!

It depends on the gear lube that you get. I think gear lube with a gl-5 rating has the additive in it. Otherwise yes you'll need the additive.

Eaton posi's are good units, Ive got one in the front of my dd. The gov-loc is the one you want to stay away from.
