I have a 1988 GMC Jimmy, TBI 350, 700R4, stock 10 bolt rearends with 3.73's and 38" super swampers. Can anybody tell me which axles i have, the 28 or 30 splines, i read that 90 and newer upgraded to 30 splines, and 90 and older were 28 splines. I am fixing to order 4.56 gears and a lockers and i need to know what im buying for. Thanks alot for the info guys.

Are you planning on off-roading with that truck much? If you are, I'd advise investing in some 3/4 ton axles. I'd hate to see you waste money on gears and lockers when your axles break the first time out...

Ive got a couple of buddies wheeling 10 bolts and have had minimul problems. I know eventually i will need to upgrade but for right now im just curious as to what splines the axles are. thanks again guys.

X2 on the 3/4 ton axels but you probably have 28 Spline axels. Well atleast thats what my blazer Had in it.

if you need a rear axle you can pick a 14bff with 456 and a detroit down here in richmond for about 500 bucks..thats prolly how much you were gonna spend anyway...dont waste your money on a 10 bolt trust me...especially not a rear....

GM supposedly changed from 28 spline to 30 spline starting in 1989. Being an 88 i would pull an axle and start counting splines. Nothing worse than buying parts that you believe are correct to find out in the middle of your project that they're wrong.

Thanks alot guys i was doing some searching, and im pretty sure it is a 28 and offroad designs has upgrades for the 10 bolt that make them stronger than the 12. im just researching my options at the moment. thanks again.

hey 2slo4five0 where can i pick up this axle, if you can give me some more information id be really interested. thanks again man.

or you can spend a lil more and get a brand new one with discs already on it for like 8 or 9 hundred...thats the way i would go if i were you...one like this...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-14-BOLT-REAR-AXLE-W-DETROIT-LOCKER-DISK-BRAKES_W0QQitemZ120092275340QQihZ002QQcategoryZ33731QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thanks alot man, ill give that some thought. But almost a grand on a axle is a lil more than im wanting to spend. tryin to make this a budget wheeler. LOL We all know how that goes.

i think shackerbuilt has them for like 800 bucks...they are in va beach...you will have to move the perches though if the axle comes out a one ton...the first thing i would tell you to do is pay 25 bucks become a member and look in the clasifides on here...you can find deals on stuff all the time...best 25 bucks i ever spent...
