OK, the Dana 44's that were used from 69-72 had smaller (260) axleshaft U-joints which made them weaker than the 73 and newer 44's that use the (297) bigger U-joint.
Question is, what is the easiest way to tell the difference between the two different kinds. Anyone have some actual numbers maybe?....for tube diameter or maybe what the diameter of the U-joint cap should be. Thanks

I just put in a 73-78 D44. I still have my busted up axle. If no one else posts I'll take a look at the difference.

I think just the diameter of the axleshaft U-joint cap should be enough. Thanks for the help. I guess if the axle question isn't about Dana 60's, not that many people care...
