My Baja Runner has an older Dana 44 front axle with the enclosed knuckles. It has 4.56 gears and a Tru-Trac locker. I also have a newer Dana 44 from a 1973 Suburban. It has 4.10 gears.

Question: Will the 4.56 gears and locker from the older axle fit the 1973 D44?
Are the knuckles from the older (enclosed) axle suitable for use on
a 1980 10 bolt front axle for a crossover steering setup?

I have been told the knuckles from the 1973 D44 are good for use in a crossover system on the 10 bolt, but wondered about the older D44 knuckles.

Depending on wether the D44 you have came from a chevy or something else, the only difference would be in Standard rotation versus reverse rotation.
As for the knuckles, I could be wrong but you can't use closed knuckles with open knuckle outers.
:D
And I wouldn't think you wanna use closed knuckles with dinky shafts on big tires.
