I have an 81-86 combination 1/2 ton gmc(LOL).It has 12 bolt axles. Are the 10 bolt parts interchangable? The ratio is 2.73 and I have 31 inch tires with a 4-speed manual and 350 engine so not great power but I am thinking of a 6" lift and 35" tires and want to change my ratio. This is my DD and most driving is on the road so I would like better power and acceleration with the bigger tires but still be able to travel highway speed without over revving. I have done some research in the past but kind of forgotten some of it. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you're asking about swapping gears between a 10 bolt and 12 bolt they will not interchange.

I didn't think they would. It appears 10 bolt parts are easier to find then 12 bolt. Would I be better off to find a set of 10 bolt axles and swap them out?Which of the 2 are better or stronger?

theyre pretty much equal in strength, sometimes people sell their tenbolts off when they upgrade axles. you could probably find a well geared set for cheap.
