Hey Guys, I just bought a 79 4x4 short bed Scottsdale and I was wondering if this sounds stupid, I am also into old fords, I am building up a 78 Bronco, and I think I will turn that into the wife's ride now because it has more room, but I have a 76 F250 4x4 parts truck with a d60 rear with a locker with 4.10's and a HD D44 front, both 8 lug, I believe that the older Chevy's and ford 8 lug rims interchange do they not and I should have a d44 with 4.10's or 4.09's in my Chevy truck, I plan on doing light plowing with it and playing in the mud and some mild offroading with it, do you think I should swap in the d60 rear and swap the front outers out from the 76 F250, this should be fairly simple to do should it not? let me know your thoughts. Thanks, and forgive me if this sounds stupid, I'm just getting back into Chevy's again so I'm new to this forum..Rick (Salt-Man)
oh I am also planning on doing a 241/205 doubler in it as well, in the future

wow, I would have thought I would have gotten something back on this by now, is it that bad of a question?
Bump da bump bump

Anybody?, anybody?, class? anybody?
I guess I'll stop back later and see if I got any bites on this :doah:

(Does sound kinda dumb)So you want to swap a ford rear 60 into a chevy truck, that would work. I don't think the ford outers would swap onto the chevy 44, unless you swap knuckles as well. Since the ford 44 is High pinion you might as well swap the whole axle, just add spring perches - and don't let people know your chevy has ford running gear!

well chevy boys have been swapping in ford rear ends for years, and in the 4x4 world I know a lot of ford guys run chevy rears, so I don't think its dumb, I know a lot of off road guys like the 8 lugs, and I think that chevy and ford 8 lug rims interchange? I just do not know for sure

All Chevy and Dodge 8 lug patterns are 8 on 6.5", Ford was also 8 on 6.5" until '99 when they went to a metric lug pattern.

Why do you feel you need to swap axles?

The rear 60 isn't a huge upgrade over the 12 bolt in the Scottsdale (I assume its a 1/2 ton).

And you can't just replace the Chevy 10 bolt with a Ford D44, Chevy is passenger side drop and Ford uses driver's side drop axles/t-cases (not to mention that the spring perch widths are probably different).

I don't feel the need, I am just thinking about how to use up some parts I have and make the truck a bit stronger I want to be able to run it hard and not break it, I know about the different drops, thats why I said change the front outters, knuckles out, but anyways, I'm just thinking out loud and looking for info, I don't want to build a strictly off road rig that I have to trailer every wheres, so I want to beef up what I got with parts I have if possible, I thought the chevy used a d44 too?

Sell trade the HP ford stuff for chevy 3/4 ton gear with ff rear. It will be a lot stronger as already mentioned. No welding or cutting.

BTW Give posts a little more time to get some attention;)
