Ok so I am a little confused. I know that they used the dana 44 in both 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton applications. In the 3/4 ton I believe they are all 8 lugs and in the 1/2 ton they are usually 6 lugs. 1. Is this correct? If so is that the only difference between the 2? 2. If not what is the advantage to the 3/4 ton 44?

3. Can a 6 lug 44 be made into an 8 lug easily? If so how?

4. I already have a 14 bolt rear end, but it is out of a van. they are wider? If so how? Is it just in the hub? 5. Can I get a front spacer to make both the same width? It is for a crawler buggy so a little extra width is not too bad.

thanks for the help. I really just wish I could get a 60 and be done with it.

I'm far from the expertise of most of these guys but I'll say what I've picked up and they can correct it if need be:rolleyes:

1. yes and maybe stronger shafts:dunno:

2. :dunno:

3.I believe you can just put 8 lug outers on it and its done

4. the van one I think is 3" wider and that puts it perfectly the same width as the stock front

now to see if I'm close we need others to chime in

1. correct, the difference between the two is mostly in the outers, slightly larger rotor diameter, and slightly larger piston size in the calipers.

2. Some 3/4 ton D44's had thicker tubes

3. swap 8 lug outers in place of the 6 lug stuff. All bolt on.

4. Van width is 70" WMS to WMS. D44 in 8 lug is 69.5" WMS to WMS. Near enough to identical width.
