Ok so today I hit up NAPA and Orielys to get a set of Axle shaft Seal for my 72 blazer with the Dana 44 front. Napa went to its book and found only one Seal listed for a 72 and it was under a "non-spicer" application only. No other seal was listed. Oriellys had a computer listed part number, but had to order it. Not to mention the guy I was working with knew about as much about cars as I know about cross stitching...

I just need to find the number.

I'm looking in my Car Quest bearing and seal catalog and the part number is 5131 and covers 1968-1979 spicer 44-5F and 44-8F. This same seal is also used for the 8.5" GM 10 bolt axle as well.

Just for fun, I checked Rockauto. They show one for nonspicer, and two others. A national and a Timken.

I know that sometimes the pics on Rockauto might just be generic, but this is weird.

I've never seen one of those seals to my knowledge. I may have, but I was paying attention, so.......Which one of these looks like what you would want in your axle tube?
Actually, if the Timken was right, i think I would prefer it.
Both have the part number you mentioned I think.

For sure the best style seal is that Timken seal you have pictured. The built in guide to keep from dragging the axle across the seal when installing the axle is a blessing for sure.

IIRC they sell two diffrent seals for a Dana 44. One fits the 3" tube and one fits the 2 3/4" ?? (not sure the size just know its samller ). I think the 3" tube Dana 44s were in 1978 to the 80s.

I thought the 5131 was for the samller tube Dana 44s.
