I am having my rear end rebuilt and it's a 10 bolt with 3.73's.My carrier is broken and the axles are worn. The guy at the shop first said it was a 29 spline count but I told him it was either 28 or 30.He recounted and said it was 30.Now I am buying a new eaton posi carrier and new axles,my question is if the axles are by chance 28 count and I get both the axles and carrier in a 30 count would it hurt anything?

The axle shafts just have to match the carrier. The gear will interchange. I you wheel the truck 28 spline would be a better choice because replacements are plentiful, but thats just my .02cents. I ran 30 spline fronts in mine and always had a hard time finding replacements when I needed them and people usually wanted more for them.

I'd say the 30 spline prob. but neither compare to D60 shafts. Again, if I had it to do over again I would run 28spline. Only reason I went with 30 spline was because I got a good deal on a 30 spline limited slip unit for the front.

Also I think 89 was the first year they used 30 spline in the front. Yours is an 88 right? I think 88 should be 28 spline.

Right,it's an 88.I just ordered the 30 spline carrier and shafts but it's a retail pickup order from summit so I can change it.Nobody had 28 spline shafts on hand but summit had 30 spline everything.$847 for an Eaton posi, install kit with axle bearings, and superior axles.
