Hey everyone. This is my first posting. I'm thinking of swapping my 12 bolt off my 73 K5 for an 04 10 bolt from a suburban. Gear ratio is the same as mine. 3.73. Has anyone done this before? Thoughts?

Just got my k5 a few months ago. I'm doing a full restoration from top to bottom. The axle might be bad. I came across this 04 for a good price. It's good and intact with disc brakes as well. Just wondering if it was worth before I rebuild my 12 bolt.

i don't think it will fit without some modification, i believe the newer trucks have a different frame width.
If it has disk brakes, it most likely has the drum in hat e-brake as well, small drum shoe brakes inside the center (hat) of the rotor.
Not really gaining any strength by doing the swap either, most on here will tell you, if you're yanking out a 10/12 bolt diff, you should be upgrading to something alittle more beefier.
but then again, it's your ride, your labor, and all depends on what you plan on using the truck for.
