I have ordered new ORD leaf springs and would like to replace the old U bolts while I’m at it.

I have 8 lug 3/4 ton axle and wondering how do I measure the diameter of them to get the proper U bolts.

This is what I need to know how to measure

Veneer calipers. If none use a screw clamp to loosely fit tube the measure opening of clamp with tape or ruler

Just be prepared to have to bend them. I had to put a couple in a vice to get them closed enough to slip through the plates. Had to have one reordered because I couldn’t bend it in enough.

Or a couple of carpenter’s squares to imitate a caliper. Just make sure the space between them is parallel.

your upper bushings looking a little aged, won't last much longer. Good call. The new shackles are stronger, will eliminate some flex.

I had to replace the plates that go over the U-bolts to the leaf springs on my K2500,the passenger side one actually rotted in half ,right over the area that covers the spring center bolt!.(and I was unaware of that till I looked at it one day,a disaster waiting to happen!)...the center bolt was broken too..wasn't a fun day replacing those parts,I also put a new shackle on too,but the spring bushing's inner sleeve came out stuck to the bolt after hours of wrenching--had to press it back in with a C clamp..bushing was a bit beat up but I had no way to get another one..I used a grade 8 bolt with the head ground round for the center bolt..

That shackle already looks 20 years old, flaky rust on it now--was only put on maybe 6-7 years ago..
I bought two but only replaced the passenger side..now the drivers side one has holes I can see daylight thru..

Pretty sure those are 3.5. Call when you order, they’ll sort you out. FWIW, when I install them, I use the #460 channel locks to squeeze them into the plate
