You can go up to 35" tire without too much wory.

There are many weak areas on a D44/10Bolt.
1) Small u-joints (and when they go they take out other stuff with them)
2) Small axle shafts
3) Small bolts that hold the spindle on
4) Balljoints
5) Stock carrier
6) R&P

Axle shafts, carriers, and R&P can be broken and you could still get home in 2wd...
IMO it is the spindle and balljoints that make the D44 a problem with bigger tires.
