axles???

I have an '84 k5. I want it to be a reliable trail rig, not hard core. Just family fun. Looking for advice on weather to strenghten my existing axles, or upgrading to 3/4 or 1 ton. Any advice would be greatly appreacated. Iam also on a very tight buget, so money is a big obsticle.

Upgrades

If your not going to get silly with it,with huge tires and rockcrawling, you can basically leave it stock, and put some $$ into making the engine a little more powerful, which usually equates into better gas mileage as well. Stuff like better air intake, exhaust mods, maybe an ignition system. Ther's other stuff you can do as well, which will become more apparent as you own it longer and drive it more.

If you can round up a set of 3/4 ton axles, they will be very reliable considering that you prolly won't any bigger!

Eventually it will have a 4-5" lift with 35s

Don't get in a rush. Post up on local farmer/rancher websites with free wanted adds that your looking for a non running K20 or K30 for parts. You just might hit the jack pot. Usely you can buy a whole non running parts truck pretty cheap. Strip it for everything you need, and any good parts, and have the rest hauled away.

biggest concern is the rear axle, find a 88-96 2wd 3/4 ton and pull the 6 lug semi-floating 14 bolt for your blazer, regear everything to work with 35's and be done with it

Those 6 lug 14 bolts may be a little hard to find, I know I'm still looking for one here in AZ. Just a thought, but a solid swap if you can find one.

Thats how I found my 76 K5 when I was looking. I try too stay with-in a 500 mile limit, but it's really up to you how far you're willing too travel for the stuff you want.

If you could be happy with 33's then you could leave the axles alone.....
