Well I wanna get rid of the shifter on the column on my 87 k10 and add a b&m floor shifter. I was just curious to see who has done this and what I would have to do because I'm pretty set on doing it. Thanks for any imput

B@M's are pretty lousy quality imo.....

hurst v-matic 2 for a ratchet shifter, or art car/winters for a gated for my money.... Lokar also makes a nice trans mounted one..

not much to do, disconnect linkage, mount shifter, drill hole for cable, route and secure cable, hook to trans..

yea I test drove a step side today like mine and it has the b&m on the floor and I thought it was awesome set up but did seem sloppy loose

I have had both the art carr and B&M pro stick. Both are good quality, just different style shifter. I went with the pro sticks lately so I could panic reverse from 1st gear with a standard valve body. Going with a reverse VB and art carr again for the buggy so thinking of selling off the modded pro stick with a new cable still in package. Its modified so you can slam neutral & trigger slam reverse.

Modified like this: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/shifter/

b&m i had years ago SUCKED in mud . had to ratchet up threw from 1st to nutral and then pull up to hit reverse. back and forth all the time.

these days i have a lokar floor shifter that bolts to the tranny case and pop's up threw the old 4 speed hole . then i poped the 4 speed boot back over and it fools so many people . i got the shifter in black also so it realy looks like a 4 speed shifter.

no cables or linkage persay . 2 hiem joints and 1 threaded rod thats it.

keep this shifting all the time into your head so you dont have to ratchet all up/down to get to the gear you want.

I have a B@M and love it. But like was mentioned, I have to ratchet all the way from 1st to N to pull the release and hit reverse. But, with Boggers, if I really need reverse, its usually to late anyways. All in all its not a bad gig, but be careful how you run the cable, I broke my first one in about 5 shifts and 5 min.

Why not mod the reverse lock and not worry about that anymore

in sonoma, picture was during initial build. I ended up raising 3" more and moving next to seat and bent brake handles to clear it.

I put in a basic, non-ratcheting B&M shifter. It was cheap, easy to install, and it's better than the sloppy column shifter. I mostly installed it because the stock linkage was in the way of the exhaust.

Hey I'd be very interested in doing that set up where could I find that one?

put truck in park key off.

undo linkage in engine bay .

make little bracket to bolt to linkage hole and down to stud on firewall were speedo cable clip bolts .

this holds the stock shifter in park permanent. and lets you start and remove key.

then cut off shifter lever or some pull pin and remove lever.

then install aftermarket as per directions .

and my lokar in truck up in 4 speed hole with boot on it. and my ord twin stick setup for the 205.

I got it from Jeg's. I just removed the stock shifter arm (pull the little pin out) and removed the linkage rod. Left the column as-is and everything stays where it should.
