Back From BB04

Ya I guess.
I lined up with the left tires on the right side of the knob on the left. I did leave it in first gear and tried a short crawling session. The front was staying hooked on the knob rock and the rear was wanting to climb an inch or two then fall down. I decided that a nice bump in second gear would be okay to do. I backed up about 2-3 feet and gave it what I now belive to be everything and the next thing I knew I was sitting level and turning to the left out the top. It really didn't seem that hard honestly.
I think the key to that obstacle is haveing a linked up suspension and being able to get a good launch from the bottom without sliding to the left or bouncing.
Not to say it is easy but with the right equipment I think that the days of that obstacle being undrivable to every vehicle are over. I have heard of more people driving it in the last six monthes than I had ever. I just goes to show you how far equipment has come in the last few years.

None the less it was way cool and I hope that everyone can experience driving something like that in their fourwheeling days.

I know what you mean, after a few short tries I simply drove up the rock pile, of course it wasn't my rig. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

There wasn't even a rear bumper stand or anything involved

Yeah, I guess if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their butt when they hop.
That just means one thing. I have to cut the rockers up and go back. darn. Maybe we should start a "things I want to change based on my BB04 experience".

I know how you feel. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Hey, I don't even want to hear it. Last year I broke my front locker the first day. This year, work combined with a replacement trans that came in broken kept me away. <sniff>

Good to hear from the "sheet metal" group. I was beginning to wonder if it was all truggy-buggies.

My family will be there next year with our 33s and 2.5" lift. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I like my sheet metal, it's prutty. I didn't hurt one piece of it this trip but my tubes took a beating.
I also like it /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif, your sheet metal group comment made me think of it. I guess from now one you can say we are part of the Gang /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

That was a sweet page! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Steve should link that for next year's BB. I know there are other guys like me that are aprehensive about going to BB with a "standard" K5. Most of what you hear and see is the radical stuff because it is more exciting in most people's eyes. I've talked to people that have never been to Moab and they have the impression it is only for the extreme. But those pictures on your page look awesome and fun for a regular K5.

I'm excited about next year. Moab is awesome.

Cool article/story. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Your blazer is an excellent writer. I'd be happy if I could just get mine to mow the lawn. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Oh yeah, I like your site too. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I added your link to the main article. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Maybe I'll bring the 'burb down next year, it is kind of fun to run with a group of trucks. It sure is nice riding around in Wally now though, you just drive over most stuff and it rides nice. I have to think and drive all the time in the 'burb. (whine whine)

Michael, the traction thing was probably thrown off by the recent rain, so that might be why the 'stair were a bit harder.

Everyone reading this listen up: Do NOT let the pictures that you see fool you into thinking that you have to be super built to come have a good time in Moab. A stock truck can run some fun trails and see good stuff and with some relatively minor mods, you can do the harder stuff with minimum fear of damage. I wheeled my 'burb there with open 10 bolts and 33's and did pretty well. In fact, at one point I had one of the more capable vehicles on our trip. Some armor and a rear locker sure helps but don't let that hold you up from a fun trip.

Now, Now JMS, don't give our buddy a hard time! He still has some sheet metal! (maybe not really pretty but it's still sheetmetal /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif)

I agree 100%. In my opinion, it's part of the thrill to do the trails and obsticals without creating body damage. I do also belive in body armor though. We all know that our trucks have several areas that can take on damage on some of the slightly larger obsticals but it's not like you need to tube the whole thing if you stay within reason of the truck and drivers ability.
I just love the look of my K5 and want it to look like a K5.
Don't get me wrong, buggies can give you an ultimate rush climbing stuff that trucks can't without taking out major sheetmetal. But on the smaller, less dificult obsticals, I'm sure it becomes boring. One of the guys kinda showed me this when they were doing a obstical that I would NEVER do and they were so busy talking that they didn't pay attention and ended up on there side. No big deal in a buggy but it also shows that you don't need to consentrate <sp> on your driving near as hard when you have nothing to damage.... ie Boring.
It's also a rush to me to have guys go out with me and come back from the trip with the biggest grin about there somewhat stock truck doing better than they thought it would /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. The next time I see them and there truck, they both have grown larger and more proud about their Chevy truck.
Nothing wrong with either type of wheelin to me but I'll stick to the sheetmetal gang and let the Chevy shine /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Oh, /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif nothing wrong with having coil overs and killer suspension so you blow the dam doors off the other trucks that don't.... hint, hint /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

that write up rocked and my wife wants to know what kind of camera the pics were takin with and im proud to be a member of the sheetmetal gang i say we make up some stickers and from now on each bb gets a new design so as the group from bb04 the originals can stand out or not but def need the stickers who on here can make them and since i havent posted the wife and i had a blast and hope to do it next year with out the little one less stress /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

I can make stickers if you guys come up with some ideas. It's kinda what I do for a living. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

were do i fall into the pot at? i guess i will have to be an inbetweeny. the sheet metal gang is a pretty cool deal.

i like having doors and fenders it took to long to learn how to drive and keep them straight to get rid of them.how about the sheet metal gang hoss, witch i beleve is a title much deserved by storm trooper /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif. i will be the assistant hoss. (hoss:-redneck slang for trail boss)

How about something like this.
