WOW, where do I start...
Departed around noon on Monday and made a stop in Glenwood Springs to check out Stephen Watson's K5, VERY impressive, all I can say is he is going to TTC to compete, I don't want to get into details about what he is doing, but I can say that he is taking it serious. Arrived in Moab latter that night and met up with Ken (white Womper), Tim (Butch) and Dan (crazy Scout driver) and talked about what we were going to do that week.
Tuesday we ran Pritchard Canyon (I know I did not spell that right) with a lot of sweet full size rigs and a few guys that were in TTC last year (Roger with his Rogerbuilt and Arron with his Bummer) as well as Jim Allen with his yellow Bummer, Derk our trail boss and Jon Thompson, the editor of Four Wheeler rode with me in the UAV most of the day. Stephen Watson was there as well even though his K5 was not ready, lots of other cool folks and their trucks as well, I wish I could remember everyones name.
The run was great and for a lot of us was the first run of the year, I had trouble with Rocker Knocker and the Rock Pile, but will be back I'm sure to settle the score
. The pics below are from the run, I only took a few pics with my digital, but have 4 rolls of film to develop with a lot more action of everyone. Ken likes to really put the hammer down with his ten bolts of furry and 36's, yep he snapped an axle shaft towards the end of the run, sorry Ken, you know it's 14 time.
After I dropped Jon off, David Kennedy (Kennedy) stopped me to talk about a feature of the UAV in an up comming issue of 4wheel & offroad, of course I said yes (kind of a no brainer) and made plans to shoot a few pics the next day.
Tim, Dan and myself met up with most of the group from the day before with our trail boss Larry in his wild no front fender 1-ton flat bed thingy ready to hit Lower Helldorodo. When we arrived at the trail we found one mile long obstickle with the added bonus of mud and wet slippery rocks, the Tellico guys will know what I'm talking about here, it snowed the night before and made a very tough trail even more challenging. This trail is rated at body damage very likely, but with the great spotters we had everyone got through with only minor scrapes and scratches. This trail is my new favorite trail, I think it was a challenge for everyone, we will be back to run this for sure, lower Helldorodo is a must for the hardcore guys.
The end of the trail put us at the entrance to Upper Helldorado which is for the extreme crazy hardcore guys, we got to watch two crazy (I mean crazy) looking Unimogs go over rocks like catapillers until one broke it's tie rod.
After a break we decided to try our luck on the Bump Dump, Dan in his Scout made it look easy and surprised himself and us as he made it up, Tim and I tried a few times but didn't make it up. Kennedy happed to be there so we left for a bit so he could shoot some pics of the now very muddy UAV for a feature sometime this year (I hope), maybe later in the summer.
Drove back to the Bump Dump to find out Tim made it up in his 74 K5, of course he now gave me mondo crap about not making it up
. When I tried to get up the Dump Bump my swing away carrier opened up and dented my tailgate as well as getting mashed of to the side. I am now going to mount the tire inside from now on as well as not carry so much spare parts and tools, I need to lighten my load so to speak.
After the Bump Dump, a few of us went to watch people try their luck with Potato Salad hill, Arron with his 500 + HP Bummer made it look easy throwing rocks all over the place and jamming to the top.
A few of us went to dinner in town and talked about what a great time we all had this week.
Thursday TIM, Dan and myself hit the Vendor show for about an hour, mostly Jeep stuff but had to check it out anyway, after a quick lunch we headed back to Denver wishing we were still in Moab.
