WOW, where do I start...
Departed around noon on Monday and made a stop in Glenwood Springs to check out Stephen Watson's K5, VERY impressive, all I can say is he is going to TTC to compete, I don't want to get into details about what he is doing, but I can say that he is taking it serious. Arrived in Moab latter that night and met up with Ken (white Womper), Tim (Butch) and Dan (crazy Scout driver) and talked about what we were going to do that week.
Tuesday we ran Pritchard Canyon (I know I did not spell that right) with a lot of sweet full size rigs and a few guys that were in TTC last year (Roger with his Rogerbuilt and Arron with his Bummer) as well as Jim Allen with his yellow Bummer, Derk our trail boss and Jon Thompson, the editor of Four Wheeler rode with me in the UAV most of the day. Stephen Watson was there as well even though his K5 was not ready, lots of other cool folks and their trucks as well, I wish I could remember everyones name.
The run was great and for a lot of us was the first run of the year, I had trouble with Rocker Knocker and the Rock Pile, but will be back I'm sure to settle the score
smile.gif
. The pics below are from the run, I only took a few pics with my digital, but have 4 rolls of film to develop with a lot more action of everyone. Ken likes to really put the hammer down with his ten bolts of furry and 36's, yep he snapped an axle shaft towards the end of the run, sorry Ken, you know it's 14 time.
After I dropped Jon off, David Kennedy (Kennedy) stopped me to talk about a feature of the UAV in an up comming issue of 4wheel & offroad, of course I said yes (kind of a no brainer) and made plans to shoot a few pics the next day.
Tim, Dan and myself met up with most of the group from the day before with our trail boss Larry in his wild no front fender 1-ton flat bed thingy ready to hit Lower Helldorodo. When we arrived at the trail we found one mile long obstickle with the added bonus of mud and wet slippery rocks, the Tellico guys will know what I'm talking about here, it snowed the night before and made a very tough trail even more challenging. This trail is rated at body damage very likely, but with the great spotters we had everyone got through with only minor scrapes and scratches. This trail is my new favorite trail, I think it was a challenge for everyone, we will be back to run this for sure, lower Helldorodo is a must for the hardcore guys.
The end of the trail put us at the entrance to Upper Helldorado which is for the extreme crazy hardcore guys, we got to watch two crazy (I mean crazy) looking Unimogs go over rocks like catapillers until one broke it's tie rod.
After a break we decided to try our luck on the Bump Dump, Dan in his Scout made it look easy and surprised himself and us as he made it up, Tim and I tried a few times but didn't make it up. Kennedy happed to be there so we left for a bit so he could shoot some pics of the now very muddy UAV for a feature sometime this year (I hope), maybe later in the summer.
Drove back to the Bump Dump to find out Tim made it up in his 74 K5, of course he now gave me mondo crap about not making it up
smile.gif
. When I tried to get up the Dump Bump my swing away carrier opened up and dented my tailgate as well as getting mashed of to the side. I am now going to mount the tire inside from now on as well as not carry so much spare parts and tools, I need to lighten my load so to speak.
After the Bump Dump, a few of us went to watch people try their luck with Potato Salad hill, Arron with his 500 + HP Bummer made it look easy throwing rocks all over the place and jamming to the top.
A few of us went to dinner in town and talked about what a great time we all had this week.
Thursday TIM, Dan and myself hit the Vendor show for about an hour, mostly Jeep stuff but had to check it out anyway, after a quick lunch we headed back to Denver wishing we were still in Moab.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I bet you feel like a celebrity getting to hang out with S. Watson and all of the magazine guys. Good luck with the magazine feature. Too many of the Blazers in the mags are either pretty trucks OR bashed up hardcore trail runners. Since yours is a good mix between the two, that should increase your chances. And also because you're in charge of the worlds most important website...ever. lol

(Your right i dont understand the jeep thing)

I've got a spare set of 35" tires for long trips...(the Swampers are almost bald anyways)
I've heard that it is a 12 to 13 hour drive from here...never done it but thats what I heard. I'm thinking of buying or building a utility trailer for trail tires.

Sounds like a kick! I was almost in tears last Sunday driving back to Colorado from Vegas seeing all the Heeps on the way to Moab.
The killer was when I saw Tim(Butch) and Dan going the other way.I almost turned around to see how the Camaro would do up there.
Oh well,maybe next year.

Sounds like you had a great time. We have to get there one of these times.
Know Roger Bernard and like his rig quite a bit.
Some other of our friends were down there with their Catvees, red jeep on 44's etc.
I heard Four wheeler would be down there. We were suppose togo but the truck wasn't ready.
Wish we could have made it.

Wow, sounds like a blast for that weekend!!! Even better, you are getting the exposure in a popular magazine!!! What better way to get your ride in the mag and get others to read up on the worlds number one blazer site? Bet thousands more will sign on as new members after reading the mag!!!

BTW, are those Rockstomper nerf bars?? If so, how did they hold up??

Murphy's Laws on Life :
"It is a mistake to allow any mechanical object to realize you are in a hurry."

Yes, those are Rockstomper nerf bars and they worked awesome, that last pic I came down on them pretty hard and then drove right off that rock with no problems, used them alot on lower helldorodo too, they are connected to the body and the frame and are bullet proof, the only thing is when I put them on it straighted out the body and put a small crease at the corner of the rear wheel well, but I can live with that, I might have Scott put an articulation point in the out riggers that are connected to the frame to allow for more frame flex or I just may leave it the way it is, I can say I had no rocker damage at all and a few times put them on rocks on purpose to move the K5 around like a pivit point. No drivetrain issues at all, 1-ton axles make me very happy.
I plan on a full cage with the spare tire mounted in the inside for a better departure angle as well as distribute the load toward the center more and will tie in the nerf bars to the cage at that time, make the frame and body stiffer.
I hope I get in the mags a little bit with the Ck5 stickers showing, would be some great coverage for the site, all the pics were taken dirty and the tires all scuffed up aired down to 8 PSI on a trail and the bump dump, they almost wanted me to wash it, but they said it would be OK dirty, I think there is enough clean show trucks out there to look at and wouldn't be represenative of the UAV anyway.

Thanks for the trip report. Sounds like everyone had a great time. My goal is to have enough beef in my K5 for next years Moab trip.
