Back from Rausch Creek.....feeling humble.

6 x 2.72 = 16.32
16.32 x 5.13 = 83.72

thats a good ratio.

I have 3.06 x 2.72 = 8.32
8.32 x 4.56 = 37.95
double that for the torque converter and you have 75.91

my next step for me when it comes to gears is 5.13's. that would give me 42.7:1 or 85:1 after you factor in the converter.

thats for the 465 right???thats what the total ratio would be???if i went that route prolly would be no need for a doubler or something along thoose lines....

hey greg im doing alot of playing around with the crawl calculator here....im working a rig and trying to figure which trans/tranfer case would be the best bang for the buck.

I think using the Low-Max 3:1 set up with your 465/5:13's would be a decent way to go.

why do you double for the torgue convertor???

You double for the torque converter because at low engine rpms the torque converter is slipping, so it's not turning at the same speed as the engine. Once the converter "stalls" you don't have that "extra" reduction of the slipping converter.

The SM465 is a manual tranny, so you don't get to double the ratio of it's 1st Gear....so 1st is roughly 6.5:1 (I forget the exact ratio). Your overall crawl would be in the 80's somewhere with a 208.

With a 38" tire (what I believe you have) you would ideally want a crawl ratio of about 120:1. That would give you 1 inch of forward travel for every 1RPM of the motor..... even with a 465 you won't be able to get quite that deep, and honestly the difference between the TH400 and SM465 in crawl ratio is probably not worth the expense and aggravation to do the swap.

To make a significant change in your crawl, you will need either a doubler, or an uber-deep single transfercase like an Atlas/STaK.

I can throw all the numbers in CrawlCAD for you later if you are having trouble working through all the numbers and combos.... :deal:

yeah i can get my hands on a 400/208 right now but im just trying to figure if that where i want to spend my money....i only want to do this once...

What about the combo I suggested? Yes/No? Would be any good?

Could you run the numbers from it?

it would be great just i have a preety limited budget...if i went 465 i would have to stay stock tranfer case....but if i went th400 i have more options (more auto stuff laying around)....but if the low max only gives you 3to 1 is it really worth getting over a 208 that gives you 2.61 to 1....becides strength and all...

should be about 92.34 to 1 according to chas's calculator...
