Back in a GM

I'm buying an 89 GMC K2500 this weekend. Didn't find a sticker under the hood but looks like a 350 to me. Sellers kid cousin swears it's a 400 small block but I don't think so. It doesn't have a 700r4 so that's both a relief and a disappointment. I'm just happy to be back in a GM

89 could not have a 400sbc stock.
Someone could have put one in.
And yeah most gas 3/4 tons got the th400.
The diesels got the 700r4

1978 was the last year for a 400 SB I think..but they'll bolt in place of any other V8..
They can be I.D.'d easily by looking at the outer part of the harmonic balancer--it will have a portion of it "missing" ,it is an externally balanced engine unlike all other small blocks, that have a "normal" balancer that is completely round all the way around its outer diameter..

The 400 SB also has balance weights on the flywheel,no other small blocks do..

Thanks guys,I chalked it up to young and rammy lol, but it's good to have confirmation. Now if the kid could tell me why the pump isn't picking up fuel..... :/ lol
