Back In the Saddle Again

Yeah. You could use your current NP208 with an SM465 or NV4500, but you would need to change input shafts in the transfer case.

Martin

Yeah, I probably will down the line. First I want to get the ol’ girl moving under her own weight. Then I’m really going to start tearing into it. Probably going to live on jackstands for a bit.

I am really considering coil overs and links for out here in the desert. High/cross steering. I want to take the axles off and really get the frame painted good and go through the axles. The pumpkins are wetting constantly and I am sure this PO drown that rear axle in the lake more than once. He only used this to haul his tritoon boat to the lake. If any of you guys have the factory roll bar specs I’d like to them them from you so I could build a replica. I’ll have a shop out here bend the main hoop for me and I can manage the rest.

You want an OEM 32 spline output shaft. If you get an '85+ SM465/NP208, it is a direct swap for what you currently have. You can even reuse your current NP208 if you just swap the input shaft.

Huh? Where did I say anything different?

Martin

here is what he is referencing I think

Yeah.
I was pointing out that the 208 was available in 32 spline since 82, and the sm465 was available at least since 83 in 32 spline with the np208

All SM465/NP208's are 32 spline (1981-1988). He was asking about the short 32 spline output. I said he wants the OEM 32 spline output shaft.

My bad

Your post wasn't very specific so it led to a bad interpretation.

Im also missing the shift detent. There was only a bolt and spring when I took it apart.

Got it ordered on flea bay. I’m guessing the PO took it out because the TC kept popping out and he thought that would fix it? Idk. Sucks because that’s going to cost me some time. I thought it was odd there was a blind spring in it.

Idk why someone would remove this. Makes absolutely no sense to me it probably made the TC shifting worse. Much worse. That could explain why it would jump all the gears so easily.
