Back In the Saddle Again

Hardwired the GPS tracker in and it’s awesome. Sends me a text if the truck leaves my driveway and I can track it in real time. I can now rest a little easier at night. There is an option with it to wire it to the ignition and it will kill the power to the starter from the touch of a button.

Which GPS tracker did you go with? I'd like to look into this as well.

It’s a little hard to use at first but their team responds within a day with details on how to set it up in the app. I had a go trying to do it myself and even I was having trouble but they responded to my email and sent me instructions on setting up a geo fence and alerts etc., the one I am using is $128 for 2 years and then it’ll be $65 a year after that. Cheap insurance if you ask me. The app is loaded with all sorts of features. Probably could have went with a simpler one but this unit and app are great. It alerts me almost immediately leaving my driveway.

There were some kids size PRP
Suspension seats for sale on here not to long ago. BB22 yard sale?

Taking a little road trip. Around 200 miles round. Truck handles fantastic on our busted old freeway out here. Way less nightmare fuel than my first time doing this same round.

I was a little worried about not having a sway bar but I think these rough country stiff leafs in front paired with the new shock set up really works out. Doesn’t jerk when hitting bumps like before. Goes over everything like it’s nothing. Very happy with the ride. It’s like driving a newer truck. Highly recommend going this route if you have the means. I am thoroughly impressed.

Just made it back. Little over 200 miles looking like 215 miles on this trip down the Route 66. Talking with @Wes Harden I was only going 65-70 on the freeway on the way there to the 66 exit. On the way back I pushed the truck to 80-85 the whole way. May not seem like a big deal to most but the I40 out here is an absolute roller coaster of an interstate. Huge whoops, dips, cracks and pot holes for miles. Not well kept haha and the truck just floated over it like a cloud. 80 feels like 150 with the top down FYI. All my meters were reading good the entire time.

The one and only issue I have encountered is that aftermarket XJ steering shaft is slipping on the steering box shaft. I’m going to throw this one in the trash and find an OEM one, DO NOT BUY AN AFTERMARKET XJ STEERING SHAFT.

Gotta tell they have tried to fix the wups, after the scales, in I40 since the 70s. Don't know why but they have never been able to fix

me talking to my pregnant Wife:
Ya know, I’m going to need a roll cage for the rear of the truck and much safer rear seats for the truck for the kid the truck just isn’t “safe” the way it is.

My wife:
Oh my gosh YES YOU DO

ME: :D
That could have gone the other way…if its not safe then we should just get rid of it and get something more practical. Glad it went the way it did!

So, I’m not happy with the action these Toyota van seats offer me. They are comfortable as hell though. They have great support, keep you in the seat and have arm rests. The issue is I’m about to have a kid and I’m going to need the seats to flip so I can get a car seat in the back.

I’ve been scouring the internet trying to find a front seat that checks all the boxes:

Comfort
Armrests
Vinyl/leather
Flips forward and reclines
Built in seat belt

I have found the perfect front seats. Apparently they are used in many van conversions for the “van life” crew of people.

There are a couple options:

Honda Odyssey 2nd row 2018-2020

Chrysler Pacifica:
These don’t have built in belts but they fold completely 90° and have a plastic protected backing. So they are second choice.

Dont you have a soft top, kid carrier goes in thru the side :rotfl:

I used 2000's silverado seats and with the slide forward and tilt I could get a kid back there, it was tight going thru the door tho.

I’ve seen people use the 2nd row captains buckets out of GM SUV’s. The 2nd row in my GMC Acadia would make a good candidate but I’m sure they’re not cheap.

The Honda Odyssey seats are not cheap either. The pacificas are a little cheaper. I looked up yours and they would look great. Better than the pacificas too

Prices on the 3rd rows have gone down considerably over the last year. Even the nice black Escalade ones I see going for $200. A couple years ago they were $600-$700. Give it a couple years and people will be begging to get rid of these seats.

The thing about those is they slide back and forth in a track so I’m not sure how you’d incorporate that feature without some serious fab work on your floors.

I had the same dilemma when I started my build but I’ve procrastinated long enough that one kid is almost old enough to drive and the youngest only needs a booster now.
