Back In the Saddle Again

There’s quite a bit of play in the pinion it feels like. Going to disassemble and get it all cleaned up.

Never mind. One I hold the ring gear and play the pinion it’s got just the right amount of play. Going to get some pattern grease and check the pattern. I’ll probably run it like it is. That little chip doesn’t scare me lol

Looks like 41 tooth ring, 10tooth pinion.
So 4.10 ratio.

The drums are nice on the inside so that’s a relief. Going to need the key way retainer washer for the passenger side as it’s missing.

If the pattern is good that chip wouldn't scare me either. I ran a 10-bolt with some chips like that for years after I grenaded the spider gears and the ring and pinion ate it. (Clutch dumps and 10 bolts not recommended :D)

Did you leave the pinion angle as is?

I am measuring about 12° of pinion angle with the perches at 0. Seems like a good amount of angle as is. This came out of a 3/4 ton.

For the 14 bolt I swapped in, I left the perches where they were. (It was out of a 76 c20). For my Long bed I had to use four degree shims to nose the pinion down. I run a 4 inch shackle flip and the OE slip yoke drive shaft.

I’m wondering how much higher the pinion will be when I put my shackle flip in

It’s going to go up. Drop the rear of the springs down for the flip the nose will go up.

Does this have a slip yoke 208? You’ll find the 14b pinion reaches further forward than the 10 bolt so it will probably push the shaft further into the t-case.

I’d say you are likely going to need a rework on the rear shaft.

Oh definitely. Don’t even have 1350’s in the stock shaft. That’s good though because then I can take the stupid 1” drop out of the transfer/trans mount. As long as it doesn’t go beyond 18° from what I have heard it should oil the pinion up until that point.

I need to go back and look at the one I had built for my old truck. I can’t remember how the transfer case yoke mounted to the double cardan
