Back In the Saddle Again

Alright got all the measurements I need for bushings. These are stock 52” springs. 2.5” wide with 1.5” bushings on both eyes. Ordering all my bushings tonight along with the 6” shackles.

Tomorrow I’ll drop the tank. Sucks I’m out of oxygen so I’m going to have to X cut the tension hanger rivets with a wheel and air chisel em out. Being out of oxygen also sucks because my dads shop press took a crap on him so I can’t press these old leaf bushings out either.

My wheels got delayed because of a storm in the mid west. No big deal should still be here this next week.

I’ll figure out the brake lines once the axle is under the truck along with routing my exhaust out the back. Having them dump straight under sure makes a big mess of stuff lol

Find yourself a hole saw that is just shy of the ID of the bushing sleeve. Let the saw chew through the rubber portion of the bushing. You'll have to hit both sides, but the center should fall out. The sleeve will be easy to extract with the rubber out of the way. I usually take a hack saw and thread it through the eye and cut a slit in the sleeve and then a little work with a hammer/chisel will knock it out.

Forgot about the hole saw method

I just took a grinder to the rivets on the hanger. Ground off the heads, and didn't care if I chewed into the hanger. Couple wacks with a sledge and they popped off.

Come borrow my air hammer. It'll cut the rivets and drive the bushing out, faster than take the spring to your dads

Got my new bushings and 6” shackles installed. I’m starting to think I’m going to have issues with the 52” spring and 6” shackles.

Looks like my driveshaft will be a good length. Now if only I could find a CV yoke to weld on the end.

The bolt kit didn’t come with lock washers so I added those on as well since these are not nyloks either

I don't believe that I have ever seen lock washers on U bolts, even on semis. Only thick flat washers.
I don't know if there is a downside to having them or not.
