i recently rebuilt my sm465 but never had the back up lights hooked up untill today. i hooked up the the two green wires to the switch with the two prong plug and wired it to the firewall where i had the correct green wires in a pig tail. i checked them with my diagram and they are in the correct place. i checked the bulbs and they were good. how often to backup light switches go bad??? i wouldn't think that would be the problem. any ways the lights dont work and its really dissapointing, any one have any idea? it seems like i did all the right motions but it still didn't work. thanks

Do you have a fuse blown or something? That's the only thing I can think of.

Since it's a two wire switch, disconnect the wires to the switch, and doing a continuity test while shifting it in and out of reverse will tell you if the switch is bad or not. Either in or out of reverse (doesn't matter) it has to break continuity. If there is never continuity, or always is, the switch or wiring past that point is bad.

It will be a heck of a lot easier to check this where the reverse light wiring is connected to the fuse panel wiring, the switch on the case is almost impossible to reach with your hands, let alone multimeter probes.

Of course, as mentioned above, you'll want to make sure you've got voltage to the switch from one of those wires first. :)
