Ok, i am wondering what to do about my "back up" lights. I went from auto to manual trans. Right now if i want to use them i have to move the shift lever on the column, which is an extra step because i shift on the floor. I have a switch on the shift linkage, and saved the plug from the other truck, but i'm just wondering how to set up the switch from the column to the stick shifter. Has anyone else done this?

Both are just normal switches, just clip the two wires on the stock column mounted reverse light, and solder them up to the two wires coming off the plug from the transmission.

The order of the wires does not matter in this case :)

or do it the lazy way like I did. Hook a switch to the wires and simply turn them on when you want them. In PA if the switch is lit when the backup lights are on it will pass inspection.

Its all good

I have'nt had mine working for about two years now, :dunno: all of sudden they just decided to stop working on me, oh well:thinking:
But then again I think people know when I'm backing up:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Yeah, i just use the lever on the column to turn them on. I hope that will do for inspection. It's kinda bootleg though so i'd like to do something about it.

I just replaced the steering column. Which wires are for the reverse lights?

Just do it like Sierraclassic said . You remove the wires to the column from their connector , lengthen wires , put them to switch on shifter . Simple .

Lazy and reqiured safety devices do not mix .

most floor shifters come with an adapter or their own switch. The parts house should carry something you could get to work.

Yeah, the switch is still on the shift linkage. I even saved the plug with the wires attached, I just gotta figure out where to plug them in. I think i've located it though, i'll try it out and let you guys know if it works.

Ok, bit better description here:

The backup light switch wires are colored blue and green, if I recall correctly. For the column switch, it is the two wire connector that goes into the switch that is on the top of the base of the column -- The same switch where the starter's purple wires (one may be yellow) run through as well. Thats the park neutral switch that keeps the truck from cranking the engine while in gear.

On a standard, the purple wires or purple and yellow wire run up to a switch on the clutch, in an auto conversion, I've always just spliced those two wires together, and forgot about it after that. The blue and green wires are a bit longer, and run to a connector, on the other end of that connector is a length of wire that runs through the firewall, to another connector on the other side, then it has an extension that runs down to the switch on the top of the transmission.

Since it is just a matter of opening or closing a circuit, you can connect the wires in any order, if they are the same color, or the same colors if you want. Then when you put the tranny in reverse, your lights will come on as they should.

Cool, i wasn't sure which set was for the backup switch. When you said blue and green i knew which one it was. The wires with the plug i saved were blue and green also. I plugged them in and now my lights work in reverse without using the extra lever. [Borat Voice] Great success!!!!

Thanks for the help SierraClassic, much appreciated.
