Hello all,

My back window just quick working altogether. I has always been slow but never just quit like this. It is stuck in the up position. When I push the button, the ammeter shows a load. What is the problem?

Thanks.

remove the rear tail gate pannel from the inside then there is a metal plate remove all screws and plate so you can access internals of tailgate. then set up a test light on window motor connector. hit the switch make sure the test light lights up. then you know you have power going the the motor. inside the tail gate there is a cut off switch in the harness right before the window motor. if you dont have power going the the window check that switch first. the switch is so you can't operate the window with out the tail gate being closed. if you have power going to the motor and nothing happens then you have a bad motor (more than likely the cause) you can short out the switch just jumper the connector right at the switch. if the motor works after you jump the switch good luck finding one. cut the connector at the switch and solder the wires together and bypass the switch so it will work. you will be able to operate the window with out closing the tail gate then. if you have to do that **** be care full because if the tail gate isn't shut and you take the glass up it can bust *** but only if it is not closed all the way. mine is like that. i had to bypass the switch no big deal.

there are two wires going to the motor one for up and one down also make sure the motor is grounded it grounds to the regulator. the ground should be a problem.

I appreciate the help. I will have to wait for the weekend to dive back into it. I'll keep you posted...

let me know if you need any more help. once you get in there i think you will see how it works :waytogo:

Don't you love these old windows. At least yours is stuck in the up position :D

Last night my tailgate and driver's window are now dead in the down position. I'm assuming burnt switches though. My tailgate motor still tries to go down if I hit the button, but up makes no motor noise. Time for me to get off my lazy arse and relay mod, clean/lubricate and probably buy some switches.

I hear you. To elaborate a little more on my saga... After I cleaned out all my junk, pulled the spare tire out, pulled the carpet and inspection plate off the tailgate I could see what I was after. Three 7/16" bolts and voila! My window is not the cable actuated type but instead uses a gear. Seems much simpler. The motor came off and I could force the window down to open the tailgate. The motor was burned up, went to carquest and now I'm back in business. Now I have to fix what I was originally working on...THE HEADLINER!!! That black foam is EVERYWHERE!!!

I'm probably in a lot better shape then you mrshaeferpants. My truck is from the high desert here in eastern Kern County. Dry, hot summers and mild dry winters. The trucks wiring is in pretty good shape and not a lick of rust.

Well, I think I know why my window motor burned up in the first place. When I replaced the motor, I cleaned up the guides, gears and greased them up. Why is my window so slow and seem like its in a bind all the time? It goes up better than it goes down. Seems like it should be the other way around. I have to help it down or it gets stuck. Is there any way to bypass that stupid switch inside the door that won't let the window work when the tailgate is down? That thing is rediculous.

Thanks again.

hey post some pics of headliner repair and tricks i got tired of black foam and stapled away

DON'T RUIN THE CARDBOARD! IT COSTS $500 TO REPLACE! Begin by removing all the trim and carefully take the cardboard out and put somewhere safe. I used a wire brush and shopvac to remove all of the foam and old glue. I ordered new headliner fabric and glue from stockinteriors.com and it should arrive this week. I'm not very good at the picture thing but I'll try to get a few up soon.

to roll the window up while it is in the down position , simply click the rockersto the closed position . just be careful not to let it go all the way un supported .

that little switch when you pull the tail gate down is on the right ? cut the wires from the switch and solder them together that will bypass the switch.
