Backfire On Tbi?

is my thinking wrong that changing the exaust shouldent change how the engine reads the O2 sensor, therby not causing the backfire? i dont know as much as id like to as to how changes affect the tbi system

thanks for the info guys and sorry about ythe caps im at work so im used to using caps. sorry i couldnt respond earlier but customers come before play. anyways its not life or death so ill try to have one of the mechanics here at the dealer hook up the diagnostics and see what the outcome is until then when its cold ill keep my foot off the floor mat. it does smell like its running rich too, thought i would thro that in. again thanks alot.

I had this problem a while back. I replaced the coil, and ingnition module that made the problem worst. So I pulled the spark plugs clean them and check the gap. Then megged them found a couple of bad ones(:angry1: bosh 2 plugs less than a year old). Replaced all of them with AC-Delco pulgs been running great since. :)

if your backfiring from the intake then i would look into a timing issue.

Timing chain too loose. The sensor inside the distributor(pick up) is worn out and it is giving the computer the wrong info on firing the plugs.

You can have a stuck valve on the intake side or a valve not seating.

backfiring from the exhaust.
rich or lean misfire
timing issue, electrical and mechanical
air pump issue
electrical failure aka misfire
exhaust leak

i doubt it's you running it without a cat

first you need to figure out if its an intake or exhaust backfire, makes a huge difference.

get a vacuum gauage and see if the needle is steady. If it isn't then you may have a mechanical issue.
