Backfiring Problem

I've got an 85 stock K30 with a 350/SM465 that has a bit of a backfiring problem. Typically, this occurs when I'm trying to get speed up quickly. My plan is to give it a tune-up when $$ allows. I plan to change plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuel filter/air filter.

I've alos tried running fuel additive to try & clean out system but it still does it.

Anybody know what the source of this problem might be?

Any comments on my tune-up? Anything else you'd change as well?

Thanks.

Backfire from the exhaust or the carburetor?

Could be many reasons...my recent backfire issue was due to burned through spark plug wire/s. Damn headers... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do a good tune up including wires, plugs, distributer cap, timing check. Usually clears it up. If not you have removed the basic problems.

exhaust

I didn't think about the timing. I'll check that when I do th etune-up. My first guess was a bad/missing spark somewhere. Maybe even a couple of cylinders.

Thanks for the responces. You guys made me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Could also be the float level too high, or the idle mixture could be a little rich.

I would check the above after the tune-up, if the problem still exists.

I am carb illiterate!! After I try a tune-up. I may have the carb rebuilt if the problem persists. I'll just solicit for some carb help in the Co Springs area.

Check your timing. Sometimes the timing marks are off a bit so you may have to make slight adjustments and give it a go.
