My truck has started to backfire only when I give it a certain amount of gas. If I'm just cruising it doesnt and if I give it a lot of gas it wont. I adjusdted the min air screws and it worked somewhat but its gotten worse again so I adusted them again and it kinda made a difference. I just put headers on, but it never backfired untill later. I've tightened all the bolts at the collecters and at the heads as much as I can (after they were hot too). Should I keep messing with min air or is there anything esle I could try? I dont mind it so much but when I'm accelerating at just the right amount its constantly backfiring over and over. Should I get those "donut" gasket things to put in between the collecters? Before I really tightened them down more, there was a black mark where I guess it backfired out of but theyre really tight and still it backfires. They are the aluminum (I think) reusable gaskets that I thought were supposed to be better.
At idle, when it's gear, my truck will surge forward randomly. I've checked for vacuum leaks. COuldnt find any. But I did find a line that went to the to smog pump from the intake. I plugged that up and it didn't make much if any difference. Anything else to check besides vacuum leaks? When I adjusted min air, it kinda helped too.
SOLVED-ISH (good enough/i dont care anymore):I have 2 subs (in the same box) in the back. And if I turn right sometimes a weird high pitched noise that match the rpms comes out of just the subs. I heard that it could either be a bad ground or someone else told me certain spark plug wires do that. Well, I chagned plug wires cause I had too anyway and it actually kinda helped but now its doing it again. Any ideas? Also, unless I have the bass pretty low, the subs get all distorted. They didnt do this before. If I increase the gain or bass on the amp it gets way worse. I got the amp and subs for free so yeah...you get what you pay for?
I'm leaking oil, er marking my territory, and I cannot find the leak. Its blown all over the tcase and seems like its coming from the rear seal because I cant find any stains where it could leak from. Any other problem areas to check or anyway to be certain its the rear seal? It seems to have gotten better recently but I havent really done anything that I can think of.
If you use the wrong length plug wire is it bad? I might have switched one or two. And I beleive they have different resitence because of the length and whatever else so maybe thats been causing some of my problems...even tho I had them before but whatever.
SOLVED (register new one and "get rid" of the old one): Before I bother calling the DMV, do any of you know what happens if you change bodys (and VINS too since its on the body)? In CA btw. And yes this has something to do with smog exemption
... and may or may not ahve to do with changing bodies
. Do you have to "scrap" the truck and "buy" another for everything to be correct?
Someone was telling me that some counties in CA are smog exempt, like a certain two counties. I'm not gonna go register my truck in another county for smog exemption but I just thought that was weird and probable not true?
I have a huge dent in my exhaust behind the leaf springs where it goes from the pipe to the exhaust tips. I'm guessing from a tree or something I dont know how something could ahve got there
. At some point after the mufflers and before the tips the exhaust points down, should I just sawzall the rest off so its like an exhaust dump? Or is there a reason exhaust dumps are directly behind the muffler? Anything else dumb or flawed about that? What about just doing one side? Do the tips actaully do anything? I could probably get the dent out, but thats more work than cutting it off so thats why I ask.
Thanks for reading my book!
