What does it mean when my small block is backfiring through the exhaust while under slight acceleration? If I stomp on it then it won't, but coming from a standstill at normal speeds it will backfire pretty good. The motor was sitting for a few years, and all I have done so far is fuel filter and put new gas in it. Help me make a list of things I need to look at/replace, I am lost when it comes to motors and tuning them...

You play with the timing yet?

Do you have a timing light? What carb? Backfires are typically a condition that occurs when timing is too far advanced or you're running too lean.

Spent today doing a complete run through...plugs, wires, distributor. I'll have to post a picture of the hole that was in the distributor cap :eek1:

Runs like a top now!
