What is the most ideal backspacing to run with 42's? The truck has 6" sup. and 1" body. Will the front axle need to be pushed foward?

I run 4" lift with 42" TSLs on 15 x 8 rims and 4.25" backspace and the axle moved forward about 4.5" or so. It cleared fine with the axle only 2" forward, but it was close when heavily articulated and turned. And if things are turned-n-twisted right, they "caress" my shocks and steering box, though no problems have resulted, just some marks and shiny spots.

Back space required also has a lot to do with tread width, tire pressure, and wheel width.

6" axle not moved at all but the springs are kinda stiff. I had to beat the firewall and it still hits at full stuff. i can still turn everythning and haven't had any problems except the firewall.

I only run 38.5s on 6" of lift with the axle moved forward 1.5" and I cannot achieve full stuff because the tires are against the floorboards.

Rim width will play an important role in what backspacing is ideal. With an 8" rim, 3.75-4.25 is ideal. With a 10" rim you'll want to stay closer to 4.25 - 4.5. You'll need to push the axle forward if your truck flexes very well at all.
