I'm looking at picking up a set of wheels for the 3/4-ton swap on my burb. I know jack about back-spacing. How much is ideal and how much is too much?

the truck is a '91 1500 suburban. The 10-bolts are taking a ride in favor of a Dana44HD/14BFF.

There is a set of wheels locally I'm considering that have 4-3/4" of backspacing. Is that going to tuck the tires in to far? I'll be running 35x12.50R16.5" tires

I'm running 36x13.50/17's on 17x9 with 5" backspacing (8 lug). I like it, because the tires are pretty well tucked under the body. It seems like a lot of 16.5 rim are 9.75 wide, but 4 3/4" bs would be fine. It won't have the tire rubbing the frame or anything like that, since mine don't.

Hmm,sounds like 3.5" may be more what I'm looking for then. I like the tires to stick out a little bit past the fenders. Or, I could use wheel spacers until I get the ones I want:D

Any way you can post pics of yours so I can get a look at it?

Another guy offered up a set of 16.5x10 Eagle 589's with 5" of backspacing. like the look and want to see how they tuck in

I suppose I could. The 16.5x10's will stick out an inch farther than mine, since they're wider and have the same backspacing. Will these pics do? I don't like to post pics of my truck unless it's doing something.:D

sweet. Good looking truck. Glad you've kept the stock grille instead of going with a billet. The '73-75 chevy and gmc grilles rock.

That backspacing looks fine to me. I'll be starting out with a 12.50 tire, then a 15.50 when they wear down.

Thanks, and good luck with your truck. I'm not really the billet and chrome type. I'm more proud of my dents and broken parts.:D

My wheels are 5" backspacing on a 16x8 wheel and they fit great over the 3/4 ton axles with no rubbing.
