Decided to check fluid in the transfer case on my 91K5 I recently purchased. It was really low, so I filled her up. Next day I notice it is leaking all over the place. It's leaking from the top somewhere and where the main rear output shaft bolts to the main body. I go to check the cause and find this...
I am assuming it is easier to get a new (used) case than get a new housing? It is a NP241 from a stock 91K5 with automatic, passenger drop. What other year transfer cases are a direct bolt in? What would you guys do?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

your going to need a t-case from a 90' or 91', they are the only ones with a electric speedo and still a passenger drop.

Thanks for the info. Now when I get another one, will it be easier to take the part I need of that one and put that part on the one still in the truck or do a complete swap out?

Wait hang on those pieces look to be off the adapter. There is tranny/adapter/t-case. That looks to be the pieces off the adapter that bolt to the t-case. So you just need a adpater.

I don't have pics just yet, but let me try to explain it better. I unbolted the piece of the transfer case that the rear driveshaft slips in. The broken pieces are off the piece between that and the main transfer case. The main transfer case is two pieces bolted together. Then to the rear of that, there are two other pieces bolted, the yoke part where the driveshaft slips into and then the piece where the pieces are broken off. Probably a dumb way to describe it. I want to get whatever it is I need soon because next weekend is the only time I have to fix it for about two months...

Ahhh...pieces off the slip yoke tailshaft housing, huh?

Maybe this helps. The broken pieces are off of #9 in the picture...

What are my options? Does that casing slide off, or is there more to undo after removing the bolts?

You could go with the short shaft SYE kit from JB conversions. It replaces that part, and eliminates the slip joint part.
