Bad gas?

no I don't believe so. Even if it did, if knock sensor is working, it would relearn quickly. Now your knock sensor could be causing issues. If it isn't torqued properly in the block it will cause timing issues. Most common is over torqued and retarded timing.

Added the knock sensor to the list of things that could be wrong.

I didn't think SBCs were supposed to be this complicated haha. Especially the TBIs. "Oh yeah they just work!"

Got the injectors changed this morning. Didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference.

Pulled #1 plug (brand new plug, now very black..) and verified that #1 is at TDC with the timing mark at 0*

I'm going to put more good gas in it. We drained it out and put 5 gallons of new gas in it but the gauge is still showing 1/4 tank so that tells me there may have been some old gas still in it. Maybe it needs to be diluted more, because the exhaust still stinks of old gas.

And she's running great! I swapped out the coolant temp sensor and that's what it was. Immediately just started running perfectly.

Thank you guys for all of your help. I cannot express how much the wealth of knowledge here has helped. I'll be buying a premium membership on payday.
