I found this while crusing Pirate. It's a GMC crew cab with what looks like the narrow bread truck dually rearend. Its got a turbo 3208 Caterpillar under the hood. I bet it will tow the farm to where it's raining.

Could just be dual rear wheels on an SRW rear...

Cool truck!!

I wonder where the radiator is? I also wonder how much body lift it has, or how much tranny tunnel was removed. Pretty neat.

Cool truck ! What are the spec for an engine like that?

1300-2000Lbs depending on the configuration (and source), 635 cubic inches (10.4L)! The non turbo version was 210 hp. The turbo versions varied up to the high 300s. I think there may have even been an marine application aftercooled version that was 425 hp. I really haven't found any specs yet, but torque is probably pretty high up there.

:eek1: :eek1: That's a real monster engine for a pickup truck. Must be really heavy too.

Cool in a truck thats not a DD.............but 4.5" bore 5" stroke

Heavy in at 1800lbs. I've overhauled them before.
Best I can tell is that they do best at a marine spec 375hp, for longevity Vs power. Its not a wet sleeve block so when the cylenders are done..... block is done. overheating and cracking heads is a big problem with these.

What kind of torque are these things capable of?

I have never been to fond of the 3208. Always seemed like a big dumb bear of the smaller diesel engine classes. It's huge, heavy, and can't match the power of other diesels beneith it's class.

If 375HP is max for that engine without seriously effecting longevity, thats just plain weak. I'd take the 3116, 3126, and C7 anyday over that hefty V8, as the I6's are more powerfull and lighter.

Thats why you can't beat the good ol' 5.9 Cummins. 1,000lbs, small, and can make 400+HP reliably.

True, it is indeed an older engine. You don't like 3116's? I have one, been great for me.

I have heard they are a pain to replace injectors in, as they take some special Cat tool?

I agree 100%, but you're comparing apples to oranges. The 3208 is old technology. If you look hard enough, you can find those all day for cheap and even free. I'd take a C7 anyday, but you've got to spend the $$$ to play.
