Badlands question

Hello.
I was looking at the pics jjlaughner has of the recent trip that some members went to badlands.
Onto the questions... where is itt?
Sencondly, I thought it was like moab, rocks and all, but it looks more like a trail with some rocks/mud and whatnot. Am I right? Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
 
It is in Attica, Indiana.

In the east side of the USA it's rare to ever see dry rocks like you see in Moab. We have rocks here, but typically you're going to go down a muddy trail before you ever see them.

Badlands has EVERYTHING. Rocks, mud, swamps, sand, hills, you name it. That's why I have such a good time every time I go there. It is unlike anything else we have locally, where often times the only obscacles are some twisting followed by many deep mud bogs.

I venture to say that trail riding is much more difficult out here in the east than in the west. The rocks sure look bigger out west but I seriously wonder what the western guys would do the first time they had to hammer down on rocks with wet/muddy tires. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Is there a bunch of different level of trails for different experienced drivers?
 
I suppose. I've heard there's some really easy trails out there, but I wouldn't know. The easiest trail we have run out there is the green which is still a 3 I do believe.
 
We ran green and pink. Green is 3 I think, pink is 4, and orange is 5. I wanted to run orange but I had a little issue with my steering box/carb issues. Next time I go, I'm going to run orange.
 
I don't totally remember what the rating is, but pink is a little more difficult than orange, orange is tight in a few spots, but not really difficult, there aren't any rocks to contend with. Jason and I ran the majority of the orange trail in about 40 minutes on Sunday after the rest of you guys left.

I went with those guys...

I have mixed feelings about Badlands...
No...I didn't see every inch of the park..
The quary area seems to be the most challenging..
with some man made trails...with rocks..

But I guess I was expecting more...
since there's so much hipe..

The park is only open 7 hours a day..
so if you brake..before closing...
You may have to leave your rig overnight...

It's also..expensive..

But all in all...I'd suggest to anyone..
You have to go at least once!!!

I don't mean to put the place down...
I guess I'm a little spoiled being in Ohio..
Where the Appalachian's Start..

We have places like Wellsville...
that have a High Puker Factor..
where the trails are washed out...

The whole time at Badlands...
I wasn't nervous at all...

I agree, its not all its cracked up to be, but its the best we have within 3 hours drive.

Sure...I know...
I didn't realize how spoiled I am...
having places within'miles of my house..
with Rocks...hills mud and stuff to play with..

After hearing how wheeling has been outlawed in IL...

I think badlands is much more challenging than you guys are making it sound. All of you guys have extremely built machines. I'd bet if you showed up in a fairly stock truck with some 33-35" tires you'd find yourself having a rough time in some of the areas.

That said there are much harder areas out there. I can't wait to make it out east some more to check out JK5's local trails.
