got it all taken care of today. thanks for all the help and input, guys.
BigEasy - that was a killer write up you posted. i'm going to re-write it to make it a bit easier to read tho.
Big83Chev4x4 - yeah, as it happens, the ones on my rig were non greasable as well, and the parts store didnt' carry any greasable. besides, in 10 years, i hope to have a d60 under the front, so i'm not too worried.
It was a very easy task. Took me 6 hours from the start of setting up my canopy (so i didn't get rained on if it started to rain) until i took it down, including clean up. At least 2 1/2 hours of that time was spent running to autoparts stores to get things i needed tho...

thank God for a good friend who loaned me his car for the day!

anyway, everything came apart and went together quickly and easily, so that was super cool.
the hardest part of the whole task was finding a ball joint spanner wrench. i found only one here in portland in my search, but then realized it was right down the street from my buddy CK5er, chopped&bobbed77burb, and wondered if he'd have the tool even tho he's got a d60 now - not a 44. well, turns out he'd made a couple of those tools, so he hooked me up. that saved me about 30 bux!

you can make 'em pretty easy out of an old 3/8 (i believe - i should check on that tomorrow when i'm not so damn tired) deep socket with your grinder.
i started cutting my new door down to size, but only had one cut off wheel and by this time it was too late to buy any more, so i didn't get too far on that. alright, thanks guys.
i'm still doing the whole lent thing, so you won't see me around again much unless i have another truck issue. if you're not familiar w/ what i'm talking about, search the lounge for a thread titled "lent." see ya!
