I've been doing my homework, doing a lot of searching through some older threads here...I have discovered a trend:

Folks doing the 10 bolt front end for the first time are not aware of the specialty sockets needed...(as was I :D)!

So I am compiling this quick list of the what and where of the needed tools...my small contribution to the cause.

1) Spindle socket...needed to to remove the locking nuts from the spindle. This link in the title is the cheapest I have found (O'Riellys), I'm sure any parts store will have one. Note the 4 prongs!

2) Ball joint preload adjuster. This is needed to properly set the preload on the upper Ball joint. Snap-On has one for $25.25, Rock Auto has one for $19.83...it can be found at some of the NAPA stores too.

it looks like this

Of course you will need the typical C-press and adapters to actually remove the joints from the knuckle.

I found a thread by Mr SmartAss (a member here), he rebuilt an axle that the p.o. used a hammer and screwdriver on as a socket ...:eek1: and used "mudgrease" as a lube...:haha:

Get these two sockets before you start, it will make your day much nicer....:thumb:

Thanks for watching....

just a fyi watch the super cheep axle bearing nut sockets. had a cheep one years ago that was made wrong and it snapped the pin off both inner nuts and i had to track down 2 new ones for a dana 60 on a weekend.

some dont have the clearence for the pin machined in to them.

good thread tho. :waytogo:
