Id been looking at saving up and buying a banks sidewinder turbo setup (gale banks is one of the idols i worship ) but spending $2000-$3000 on my truck would be twice what i bought it for. and its just not that nice of a truck.

Browsing around Heath Diesel Performance, i decided to just see what their turbo kits cost. It says its a "complete turbocharger assembly" for $1200. but im not sure exactly what that includes. probably not manifolds or crossover, or intake. But it seems to be a much less painful option to turbo the 6.2. Just thought id share if anyone else was lookin.

everything i've seen from banks is overpriced. and i know heath has an awesome rep with the 6.5s so i'm assuming they'd know they're way around a 6.2
and you cant argue with the cost difference.

clarification please? i was thinking the GM8 was the last version of the turbo setup, used in Gvans with the 6.5TD. van turbo = a team turbo.... BLAST fooled by logic again.

Well it is but ain't. To what I understand it an 8 but its totally different guts built by someone that I can't remember.

Iv also heard its an hx-35 from a dodge but almost positive that ain't true.

ahhhh gotcha. im guessing thats just for the turbo itself. so id need to score the manifolds, crosspipe, and all that jazz from a doner truck. the name alone makes me want to put it on my rig, im not gonna lie, im that easy :)

Lol easy huh?!?!. Yea that's just for the turbo. Everything else will have to be sorced from a donor or I think you can buy just the manifolds from banks. If you have a/c then I would go banks because the factory 6.5 manifolds makes the turbo sit back and hit the a/c box.

yup, just ask any of the sorority girls at odu :D

i wish :(

anyway, yeah i got the military truck, no ac, so nooooo problem.

Why not go with a stock 6.5 turbo setup? If you put a new boost controller on (like one of these) you will have more than enough boost than your motor can handle. I did mine for around $1000.

well the factory GM8 turbo setup is what i was talking about, but the A-team was suggested by those on here in the know. The A-team turbo seems to be better due to its lower psi level and higher airflow, which keeps EGT down and still provides the power boost. honestly id be open to either one. gotta wait till i have the disposable income anyway.

Yeah I hear ya. Another thing to think about is the 6.5 turbo fitment is a pain. It doesnt clear the A/C without mods, (your using a m1009 so that doesnt matter). You have to make a custom crossover pipe (i made mine in a hour). And the down pipe, its really really tight to make it fit inside the frame rails, I just ran mine outside. That being said, I would do a 6.5 again if i had to do it over, useless I found a really good deal on a banks or ats.

just looked at Heath Diesel Performance. didnt see any 1200 turbo set up.

look at chevy buses lots have turbos
