I'm happy with the radios I have. You will want to use Chirp to program in repeaters though. Programming on the fly is less than user friendly.

I'm very happy with mine. Happy enough I'm wanting to order another. Go ahead and order a mic, good programming cable, and one of the improved antennas too. I have the Diamond SRJ77CA and I've had good luck with it as well.
Use Chirp as well, makes programming super easy and while you can program from the keypad, like Kenny said it's a pain.
