Can anyone tell me how to replace the glass in an 85 'burban barn door? I cut the gasket on the donor doors to get the glass out but not a clue how to get it in my door without destroying the glass. Heat gun maybe? Only possible for pros? Thanks in advance

I've never done one on a barn dor Burb, but my G-10 van's rear door glass was pretty easy,I just used a flat bar to gently pry the rubber away from the sheet metal--once I got one corner loose I was able to push the glass out, with the rubber still on the glass--I used a peice of insulated wire to draw the rubber back in when I installed the new glass, just like you would on a pickup's rear window..

Afraid of busting the glass?..what I did was "practice" at the junkyard FIRST,before I attempted to do my van!...the guy at the one I go too is pretty cool,he doesn't throw a tantrum if something like a rear glass breaks while your trying to get it out--heck,half the time his crew cant get one out on the first attempt either!..since they crush most everything older than 10 years now, they aren't too upset if a window gets busted, its only going to get smashed anyways,right?...

Yeah like he said you need to peel off the inside lip and slowly peel away the window, and to put back in it's easy, use a nylon rope PM me if you want detailed instructions.
I used to restore old cars and got to be very good at it.:D

Thanks Diesel I wasn't sure about the one piece rubber, thought it may be similar to the windshield. Maybe I'll be able to save the gasket on my burb:rolleyes:

I remember when I was at a body shop once delivering some paint--they were working on a 60's VW Beetle, and they had a parts car out back they were stripping for parts..

I saw a worker get in the back seat, lie down, and KICKED the side window hard with both feet, and another guy standing nearby had put some blankets on the ground, and the windows popped right out intact, and landed right on the padding!..

I was like --but they just laughed and said "it's the best way we've found so far to get them out FAST without busting them!...we do it all the time!..dont think I'd have much luck doing it that way though!..
