Anyone installed the Barnes4wd 13 bolt cover with axle in the truck? Wondering how hard to cut extra off when in vehicle. website calls it high clearance shave cover.

I have their diff cover installed. Havent shaved the bottom yet. Some slits cut with the cut off wheel, knock 'em off and grind smooth. I dont think its going to be that difficult with the axle under the truck. I heard it gets pretty dusty/dirty though.

just trying to save the $ right now and install it down road, it's doable right? I have access to shop lift :D and have a sawzall.

I've done 2 of those covers now. One was on the ground (cut off pretty easy with a sawzall) and the other on a lift (still with a sawzall). Ground them smooth and painted. Took about 10 min both times. I would recommend a lift, but was really not too bad doing it on the ground.

I like the idea.
No structural integrity issues with that shave?
Anyone ever heard someone regret doing this?

I've heard nothing bad yet, nor have I had any issues. I have had the rear diff come down hard on some rocks, with no issues.

Can't remember who's 13 bolt cover I have on the 83, I did it in the truck on the ground. Have had no issues and it's been done for 3 years now.

Buddy did his 14 bolt, it had a odd shaped casting. He cut most of the way through it, knocked it off with a hammer. Ended up with a hole in the bottom. Had to weld her back up. It was a mid 80s 3+3. Guessing it was just a casting issue :dunno:
