I would love to lose the carb. I'm not seeing any Basic Fuel Injection info in the technical reviews section or as a sticky at the top of this forum? Seems a pretty complex operation with a lot of factors. Does anyone have a link to that kind of information?

From what I've seen so far in this forum it is pretty common to go TBI. My 75 w/350cid doesn't have any emission requirements here...

Go buy a GM service manual set for the year you intend to run. It will explain a lot.

There is no "easy" way to explain this stuff I suspect...it's all inter-related, so it ends up seeming to be a complex nightmare. Diagnosis can be, but the wiring aspect can be handled with the right GM wiring diagram, the harness, and some time. Eventually you understand where each wire goes, then what each component does, then you can start to theorize about why a certain problem is occurring. :)

That sounds like a good idea.

I guess the next question would be what year would work and still has parts available? I would probably like to upgrade the intake manifold when I do it, so I assume I need to find out which (torque-centric) manifolds that fit my 350 also work with a TBI set up.

In December I converted my 81 Chevy truck (350) to TBI. To be frank, if your vehicle has a lot of miles or needs rebuilt, TBI would be a waste of your money and time. Low or erratic vacuum, wild cam, oil burning would easily fool the computer and give poor engine performance. Now - saying that - if the engine was rebuilt correctly, less than 60,000 miles, and a slightly wilder than factory cam,- TBI fuel injection will make the engine come alive. I reccomend you contact Howell Engine Development Phone 810 765 5100 and discuss what you want with their technical people. If your current cam is too lumpy they will tell you. TBI fuel injection isn't cheap ( around $500 - 1000) - it is an investment in better performance. Good luck, look at all your options carefully.

Your easiest swap is going to be an '87-91 "old body style" donor.

I'm sure the newer body style stuff up to '96 when they went Vortec, would work, just more work since the harness wasn't designed around our body style trucks.

Howell is very helpful, good tech line.

I found a 93 suburban with a newer crate motor and swapped the whole thing and bought computer, prom, harness from Howell. Works great and harness was plug and play. I think we spliced in a couple wires. You also have to put an external fuel pump on if you don't have a TBI tank.

I did have help from a full time mechanic and we had the whole thing done in one long day in a normal garage, no lift with normal hand tools.

Hey I cannot get that link to work, and my engine is waiting to run.

Did it get deleted, or moved? I tried searching there, and couldn't find it.
