Well automotive machinist to me means that you stand in front of a CNC machine and make a bunch of the same parts all day been there, done that. I do appreciate the info but I don't appreciate the third degree!
Sorry if you felt i was giving you the "third degree".
There are no CNC machines in automotive machining.
What automotive machinist means is that i rebuild engines all day and do various other auto related machine work such as machining brake drums and rotors, press axle and wheel bearings, resurface flywheels, do valve jobs, clean engine parts, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm not an automotive repair technician by trade but i have been working on cars/trucks now for 29 years.
I am glad that you have your problem fixed though and maybe now that you have a better understanding of what i do and know you'll seek my advice next time you have a problem.
I'm not. He asked a noob question, gave a smartalecky response, ignored your correct diagnosis, ask more noob questions, took noob actions, another noob question and then finally did your suggestion.
Now he doesn't appreciate, what he thinks is, the third degree?
