The battery post on my cs130 alternator spins loose. Is this a fixable event or is the alternator toast?

Thanks!

On how new a truck?..the old 10-SI altenators had a plastic grommet on the housing ,the stud passes thru, and on the inside facing part of that grommet,it's round hole for the stud had a square recess in it the stud's "head" is secured in,so it cant spin when you go to tighten it..till it gets old and brittle and cracks..:doah:...you must remove the rear half of the altenator to replace that grommet, and I dont know where you'd find a new one ,maybe a rebuilder shop would sell or give you one..or maybe some J-B weld or putty would "fix" it..

I have gotten by when I had that happen by not using a nylock nut on the stud,I used a regular non-locking nut with a star lockwasher,I was able to get it to tighten up with that nut because there was no nylon to cause enough "drag" on the threads to make the stud spin..should the stud be able to touch ground due to the grommet being comprimised though, you will have a dead short and smoke the wire and the altenator possibly..not likely, but not an impossible scenario..

There, fixed it for you.

I missed the cs130 part...I'm not very familar with the newer altenators,I have replaced a few,but never took one apart yet,and it is very possible the stud and grommet design is such that its more likely to fail and let it short out--even on the 10SI altenators if the wire at the connection to the stud inside the wire "moves" out of position it can and will short out to the case and smoke will ensue..those altenators are easy to take apart and repair though..usually I just hit the boneyard up for another one though, for 25 bucks..

Was able to get it apart and fixed. Hopefully it works correctly. Can't wait to fire this thing up.
