So i went to start my truck because theres about 40 inches of snow so the car does not like to move, it would not even turn over, i pulled the battery and charged it, put it in and it was dead after turning over a few times, i went to charge it again i popped off the electrolyte cover and noticed that it was frozen. what causes a battery to freeze? The battery is only a few weeks old from walmart

the water in the batt will freeze cause of the cold . you have to warm up the batt then charge it. otherwise you can BLOW UP THE BATT.

The battery water froze? How cold is it there? I've never heard of that before.

Well, I just read that a good fully charged battery should be ok down to about -95F. If yours froze at a sensible temp I'd suggest it was either tottaly discharged or was a faulty battery with a very sg.

i don't think it got that cold here, i was in California for the week so i do not know what the temps were, the truck has sat for a while so the battery most likley was a little low on the state of charge
