Who's done it? The supports on both my trays are good, just the actual trays are rusted through. I took them out and don't see why we can't build a simple flat tray with a lips on both sides, cut the original tray off, and weld the new one to the supports? Noob fabricator here with a brother that can cut and weld. Any pictures would be nice.

I've got the steel and welder, could do this for nothing as opposed to spending $50 on new trays.

No reason you can't. Either that, or attached a Kragen plastic tray to what is left of your metal one.

But really, if there are any of these trucks in salvage yards around you, just go get new trays. Seems like it would be worth teh $

They are still available through the dealer as well, I just purchased one to put in dual batts.

If you can find scrap metal, then just weld in a new bottom. However, if you are in an urban area and need to buy metal from HD, Lowe's, etc., you will pay way too much for the metal and in that case, LMC, Summit, etc. is pretty cheap for brand new factory copies.

I pussed out and ordered a couple from cheyenne truck parts late today. Had another thing I needed to order and I'm short on time the way it is. $18/each isn't too bad.

I see you ordered new ones already, so I'm late to the party.

My tray was shot, but the vertical part was usable, so I put together some angle. I had to notch the side that met the fender to clear some shape in the sheetmetal, but i was able to reuse all of the existing holes on the vertical parts and the inner fender.

Around here, unless you stumble across somebody throwing away a bed frame, even a simple few foot piece of angle iron will set you back way too much money. I can't believe how much the hardware stores charge for it. That one should last you a while.
