so my truck is finally coming to a finish (for now) and i need to mount my batterys. but where. im not running wheel wells so thats out. i know guys run them in the very rear by the tail gate, but why? im thinking of running them where the heater was aginst the firewall, either aginst the firewall or i can cut the firewall and mount it inside where the cab behind the glove box. anyone have any imput? also where can i buy extra long battery cables to mount them farther away?

group 27's.....

Shorter battery cables = good.

Aside from that, keeping the weight in the front makes the truck climb better but a truck that is very front heavy won't brake or handle as well.

The battery in my Blazer/buggy is in the back but simply because I don't have room for it under the hood any more. On a truck, I wouldn't intentionally move the battery.

If you decide to mount the batteries in the rear make sure you use welding cable for the battery cables. Welding cable has many more strands of copper wire versus standard battery cables and the further you go the bigger the cable needs to be.

fixed it for ya.... ;)

one other thing to mention is, I'm always a fan of getting the bats away from the the rad support on offroad rigs if possible.. That added weight leveraged up front really tends to beat up the front clip/wells..... never forget dropping one thru the well of my Power Wagon on a giant pothole in NY....

That's why mine hangs from the cage supports for the shocks. And that also supports the core support,

My red top is on the firewall where the factory hvac shoe box was. Keeps all the runs short.

Thanks, thats just what I needed to get it running for a trip, there is a little more going on now. When I get time I'm going to move the relays inside and add a second isolated battery.

I'm moving my 2 27s to the rear, and adding 2 31s over the spare tire area. I need the room up front for the dual fresh air intake. I will then fab up a relay housing where I can easily get to them. I will have the 27s running off of the factory alternator and the 31s will run of another alternator and will handle the blower motors (front and rear ac), stereo, e fans, rear dc winch, auxiliary lights, and the trailer winch.

All I need is a week of 50 degree weather, have had my parts stashed in the garage over the winter

Can you post info on those clips/holders on the horizontal run above the distributor please. Nice, clean and secure.

I can't remember where I ordered those. Most of that stuff is marine electronics stuff. I ordered from a place online once then found out we had a boat store locally that carried it all so I shop there now. When I'm not posting on my phone I'll try to look back and find where I ordered them.

They're handy because they're designed to accept a zip tie.

Mine doesn't compare to the detail on Avery's or Ryoken's trucks but I also moved mine to the firewall. My reason was the need to trim the fender a fair amount which forced me to lose the lower battery tray brace.

I used an Artec box -

there is my answer. did you buy that mount ?

Yeah I bought it from ballistic before they screwed over the off road community. A lot of shops make them though.

I don't have a picture handy but there was a seam on the inside of the firewall that I cut slits in and layed over so it was flat. I ran two wide pieces of flat bar on the inside so it distributed the load across the firewall better.
