BB 2010 Dates?

Well the final decision has been made. The truck will be ready the tow rig will be ready, I am finally going to hit a blazer bash!!!!!!!!!!!

Come hell or highwater I will be going :D

My goal is run the triple threat (poison spider mesa, golden spike, gold bar rim) in one daylight period, I have come out of that trail at the earliest late at night. That trail has been my nemesis for going on 12 yrs

Hit everything else in Moab including area BFE and Pritchet with little problem but man that triple threat kills me every time. I have that trails number this year. :draw:

You going to caravan down with us

It all looked good when I drove by the Gooney Bird Thursday at 6:30 ... and then a cut tire got in the way...

Just back from Cruise Moab. Golden Spike on Thursday, putzing around on TipToe on Friday, and White Rim on Saturday. Methinks TipToe could be offered as one of the easy runs...

Im thinking the easy ones is where Ill be heading, especially if the blazer isnt ready we'll be in the girlfriends tacoma.

So, Moab / Southern Utah trip #14 is in the books.

Sun - Arch Canyon Overlook / old highway up Comb's Ridge and the back road into Blanding.
Mon - North Cottonwood Canyon / Beef Basin / Bobby's Hole / Elephant Hill - since my K5 is not so svelte compared to my Landcruiser friends, it is now affectionately known as "1 ton of sh!t in a 1/2 ton bag"...:D 60 miles of trail, the pic is from the climb up Elephant Hill.
Tues - Hart's Draw / Lavender Canyon.
Wed - CruiseMoab Tech Inspection / Needles & Anticline Overlook.
Thurs - Golden Spike. Started as Tail Gunner, ended up leading the majority of the group out after breakage on the stretch up from the Golden Crack to the rim.
Fri - TipToe Behind the Rocks. Scouting as an "Easy" trail for Blazer Bash.
Sat - White Rim (some 80+ miles of rail). :D

About 1700 miles. 918 photos.

Breakage on the K5: Relay for the fan on the aux tranny cooler kaputt  (field replacement); mirror fell off the windshield when I hit a ledge with the rear bumper on Golden Spike  (Carquest next day); cut sidewall on the way out from Spike; discovered on the shelf road, had to change tire 1/4 mile from Hwy 191 - repair not possible, new spare is a near-bald Toyo AT with about 7 plugs in it ($25, and $18 to have it mounted...Chip's Tire in Moab is great, they're really helpful).

Sun - drive home through snowstorm (4 inches of slush on the road) in Monument Valley and the northern part of the Rez, no power in Kayenta = no gas...

Probably, depends on a couple things. I will probably be picking up Dave (76zimmer) at the airport. so it depends on when his flight gets in.

And no I am not going to take a crew cab dually and trailer into the airport :haha: my sis live a in WVC pretty close so I will just drop my stuff there and take her car

Bummer on the tire but at least you still got to do some trails and make it back to AZ.

Not really unexpected. That tire was seven years old (it lived most of it's life as a spare), and while it had good tread, the rubber was pretty dry. And since I'm mulling over getting new tires anyways...

The cool part was that breakage on the K5 was pretty minor, and cutting a tire is par for the course anyways.

We had a freaky break of a steering box sector shaft on an 80-series LandCruiser (a really rare event) on Golden Stairs, and a broken rear diff on an FJ Cruiser (a known weakness on some of these trucks) on the ledge next to Body Snatcher. The steering sector shaft happened ~4pm, they Cruiser guys had a parts runner come in around 7pm (we met them on the shelf road while I was leading), and the truck was back in camp out at BFE at 1am.

On the FJ cruiser, some of my AZ Cruiser friends hung back to help; they dropped the rear driveshaft and eased the truck out, using a strap when necessary. They caught up with us when I was just finished changing my tire. Actually, in all honesty, I didn't get to do too much at the tire changing part - a few guys from the group jumped in and helped.

Running White Rim in one day was a long day, but the photos came out pretty awesome...

Speaking about BFE as the headquarters for CruiseMoab: it worked, but I didn't like it. It is far out of the way, and if you don't want to camp, you were pretty much isolated from event. And camping in BFE is pretty spread out, so you can't find anyone anyways. From my perspective, the funny part was that the bad weather (snow, hail, etc.) seemed to be over BFE most of the time...

and there's not much shelter there from what I remember.
