BB 2014 Picture & Video Thread

That is one thing I think should be a little better organized, (at least from my limited experiences in Moab)..a few experienced spotters to take turns on each obstacle...trying to listen to 3-4 people telling you different things sucks, then again having no one would suck even more.

I think this was the issue, to many people trying to spot, It looked like Chris was looking around at everyone. Myself having lack of experience just held the camera and was willing to help if instructed.

Good spotters are vitally important. I always ask the driver if they want a spotter. If so, who? I will do it most times, even if I have not seen an obstacle ran. It's not my truck.

The Tilt A Whirl videos are funny. Jack and Brent got a spotter, I was left to my own devices. What is up with that?

Chris has no gearing and knows it. Started a bit too far left and attempted to stab back right and climb the wall. Stuffed his tire in real good and by the time he got it to climb the wall, he was already so into the go pedal that once it DID start climbing it shot up so fast there wasn't much else to do but flop. Lol

He's got some good battle scars from that Hell's Revenge run. Like a bull in a China shop hahaaha

I think that's a good point. I know I need to do better about setting up a spotter routine when I'm trail leader. I thought about it a lot on the newby run Friday. Another thing that I thought about is that we rely on the experienced people for trail leading which means there will be a lot of times we don't realize an obstacle is going to require spotting for others. I know I'm guilty of this.

The biggest thing we need to make a point of at the beginning of the run is to tell people they need to give a shout when they want a spotter. If there's one thing I've learned doing this event for 7 years now it's very hard to judge a driver's skill and the capability of their rig when you've just met that morning. So at least for me I'm going to need a heads up when people want/need help with spotting.

I've seen the multiple spotter thing so many times I can hardly think of a time there are NOT 3 or 4 people trying to spot. It becomes one of those "everyone has an opinion..." situations. Unfortunately it usually ends up falling on the driver to point to the 1 person they trust and say YOU are the only one I'm going to watch/listen to.

All of that being said, I'm not sure the Escalator on Hell's is a very good example of a good/bad spotting situation. The line through that obstacle is so tricky. I've seen some of the most experienced drivers with well built rigs I know flop where Chris did. And I've seen some of the best spotters unable to help get someone through. I feel that obstacle truly requires driver skill and even then a little luck is required. I also can't say as I've ever seen a full bodied full-size rig get through there.

And on the topic of trail leaders/spotters, I want to take a minute to say I thought Amber and Brent did an excellent job on Fins n Things Sunday. I took a lot away from that run on how I could do a better job myself.

Your rig was a long bed. The blazer length/width does not work on the escalator, you have to be lined up exactly right. Longer wheelbase or narrower rig is more forgiving.

The S-10 makes it look easy :D

note to self, bypass the escalator!
I certainly need a spotter...I will be the first to admit it! I am so green when it comes to running rocks!

In line to be re-routed back into Mesquite, which was out of power. Whole sections of I-15 were washed away.

After the 93 opened (also flooded) Chris and I were able to get through using at 4+ hour detour :(

Going through the 56/93 area
